Experience the culture of New Zealand

Rotorua and Waitangi, NZ

New Zealand’s heritage is based on the Polynesian culture. Over one thousand years ago Hawaiiki (Tahiti) became overcrowded. Many dugout canoes holding about 80 people plus supplies left to seek new land. Ten canoes landed on Aotearoa, meaning ‘The land of the long white cloud'. The ones that went north landed on a group of islands they called a name similar to their homeland. They called it Hawaii. Aotearoa was later discovered by Abel Tasman and Captain James Cook and was named New Zealand. We get our wonderful, friendly and giving nature from the Maori people as they became known. The culture has been kept alive through festivals, tourism and learning the language in schools.
